ABOUT NICOLE

I STARTED AT THE BACK OF THE ROOM TOO

Boots on the Ground began out of a need to help beginners feel like they belong. Everything I've built since is designed for the person standing at the edge, wondering whether they're allowed to join in.

MY STORY

IT'S STARTS WITH JUST ONE STEP

If you've ever stood in the back of the room wishing you knew the dances, you're not alone. I've been there too. I've been teaching movement, fitness and building community since 1987. I started teaching through community schools and the YMCA before opening my own yoga and fitness studio, which I owned for nearly ten years. Along the way, I became a certified yoga instructor, a master fascial fitness trainer, and spent many years teaching Zumba. Helping people move with confidence has been my life's work. But even with all that experience, I still remember what it feels like to stand in the back of the room wishing I knew the dances. And I knew other beginners were feeling exactly the same way. That's when I realized there had to be a better way. So I created Boots on the Ground to make line dancing feel less intimidating and a whole lot more human. That promise still shapes how we do things at BOTG. We welcome people in, teach with patience, and make sure nobody feels like they have to earn their place on the dance floor. A place where people can learn, laugh, and belong without worrying about getting every step right. That promise still shapes every class I teach. I welcome people by name. I teach with patience, and I make sure nobody feels like they have to earn their place on the dance floor. Whether you're taking your very first class or you've been dancing for years, I want you to feel seen, supported, and excited to come back. Because around here, nobody cares if you miss a step. They just want you on the dance floor.

Our north star is to be the most welcoming line dance community out there. Not the biggest, not the most technical. The one where a nervous beginner has the best possible first night.

Mission

A welcoming first home where beginners find their rhythm.

North star

To create the most welcoming line dance community out there — a home for line dancers wherever they live and whatever they can already do.

MY VALUES

Four rules I actually apply

BEGINNERS BELONG HERE

You don't need any experience to dance with us. We'll meet you where you are and help you find your feet, one step at a time.

Authentic

What you see is what you get: real people, real dances, and a community that shows up as itself.

Community over perfection

We're here to enjoy the music and each other. Getting every step right matters a lot less than feeling welcome on the dance floor.

Nobody cares if you miss a step

Truly. Take a breath, catch the next count, and jump back in when you're ready. That's how all of us learn.

Come as you are

There's a place for you on this dance floor

If you're wondering whether you belong here, you do. You don't have to know every step or feel completely ready. Just come as you are. We'll learn, laugh, and keep dancing together.
